Year 7, 8 and 9 French Exchange
UCC has been sending students on a three- to five-week exchange to La Source, a private school just outside of Paris, France, since 1985. This provides students with a transformational learning experience that impacts how they see themselves and the world.
This fall, two Year 8 students, Nate Finney and Matteo Gjinali, spent three to four weeks living with their exchange families, attending La Source and visiting the local sites. Their exchange partners will stay with their families and attend the Upper School after the March break.
Ideal candidates need to be coping comfortably with academic work, have good proficiency in French, and have the maturity to adapt to a new cultural environment. The application process includes: the completion of a student and parent questionnaire; a student interview; input from the candidate’s teachers; and an interview in the parents’ home. Students will travel to France in September. French students come to Toronto after the 2020 March break.
Please write to Tina Brunelle if your son is in Year 6 or Year 7 or to Sophia Berezowsky if your son is in Year 8 by Monday, Feb. 18 if you a interested in your son participating in the exchange next year. Parents pay their son’s travel expenses from Toronto to Paris and back. There is no charge at the school except for pocket money and similar expenses. Both schools select the exchange participants on the basis of their ability to cope academically and socially, and the compatibility of their interests and personalities.
