Year 2-IB1: Is your son looking for a summer program in the humanities?

University of King’s College in Halifax, N.S. is offering a week-long residential summer program for high school students with an interest in literature, philosophy, history, politics and art. Morning workshops will explore a range of challenging texts; in the afternoon, students will hone their skills in writing, public speaking and debate. There will also be many opportunities to experience the unique culture of Halifax.

The week will culminate in a public symposium, The Humanities in our Communities, where students will have a chance to present their work alongside professors and community allies. The keynote speaker will be George Elliott Clarke, the parliamentary poet laureate.

The program runs July 10-16. Students must apply online  before Wednesday, June 1. A brief statement of interest in the humanities and a letter of reference are required. The fee of $900 includes all accommodations, meals, materials and excursions; a limited number of bursaries will be available for those with financial need.
