Year 12 | At-a-glance
This is the final newsletter for 2020! The office will be closed Tuesday, December 22 until Monday, January 4. If students have not yet completed their post-secondary research and applications, they need to do so as soon as possible. As you can appreciate, counsellors and all teachers will be off for the winter break for much needed time to spend with family.
All Year 12 students must update their Naviance account indicating all of the universities they are applying to and any offers received. This includes all universities in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. This is particularly important for Canadian out-of-province applications as in some instances we will send a transcript directly to the university which may result in an early offer of admission. When students have submitted an application, please use the edit function (pencil icon) in Naviance to mark it as “submitted” and include the faculty or program to which they have applied.

Students should contact their university counsellor if they would like to participate in a mock interview for any of their university applications. It’s important to book several days in advance of the interview to ensure their counsellor’s availability.
Early consideration deadlines for University of Toronto engineering or commerce
Students who wish to have their application for engineering or commerce programs at the University of Toronto reviewed for possible early admission offers in February or March must meet earlier deadlines, as follows:
The OUAC application must be submitted by December 1; the Online Student Profile must be submitted by December 15. Students who rank U of T engineering below third choice on their OUAC application will be disadvantaged in the admission process.
Once you apply via OUAC, Ms. Berndsen will send you a transcript to upload to your portal along with additional information to include with respect to your academic profile.
Once students have applied on OUAC to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Toronto, they will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the required supplemental application. Click here for a helpful overview.
It’s important to recognize that the supplement requires students to answer three randomly generated questions. Two of these must be answered orally through an uploaded video. The other problem-solving question requires an essay answer of no more than 250 words, written online within a 10-minute period.
The OUAC application should be submitted by November 25 in order to ensure that the supplemental application can be submitted by noon December 10 for early consideration.
The supplemental application for commerce consists of both short written essays and a video component.
