Year 10-12 parents: Is your son interested in science, math and technology? Is he a budding entrepreneur?
Each year, the SHAD program invites over 600 students from across Canada and around the world to attend a month-long summer program at one of fifteen Canadian university campuses. Applicants are chosen based on exceptional academic achievement, initiative, drive, and creativity.
Programming is built around a different theme each year. Students engage in lectures, workshops, projects and activities. Participants work with peers to find bold solutions to complex problems. Students create a product or service, conduct market surveys, draft business plans, and engineer working prototypes. The winning team from each campus is invited to the national competition in the fall.
The online application can be found here: http://www.shad.ca/Apply.htm. The application must be submitted by November 19 at the latest (earlier applications are encouraged). Students must complete a comprehensive application and ask a teacher to write a reference on their behalf. The University Counselling Office must verify the academic information for each applicant so your son must notify Leigh Berndsen of his intention to apply by November 12 at the latest.
The 2019 program runs June 30-July 26. The cost (covering everything but transportation) is $5700, but scholarships and bursaries are available. If your son has questions, he should speak with his university counsellor (we would be happy to provide feedback on his application).
