Year 10-11 parents: Is your son interested in STEAM and/or a budding entrepreneur?
Each year, the SHAD program invites one thousand students from across Canada and around the world to attend a month-long summer program at one of nineteen Canadian university campuses. Applicants are chosen based on exceptional academic achievement, initiative, drive, and creativity.
Programming is built around a different theme each year. Students engage in lectures, workshops, projects and activities. Participants work with peers to find bold solutions to complex problems. Students create a product or service, conduct market surveys, draft business plans, and engineer working prototypes. The winning team from each campus is invited to the national competition in the fall. The 2020 program runs July 5-31. The cost of $5,800 covers everything except transportation. Scholarships and bursaries are available.
The online application can be found here and must be submitted by November 18. Students are required to write an application essay and ask a teacher to write a reference on their behalf. The University Counselling Office must verify the academic information for each applicant. Your son’s counsellor can provide advice and editing support for the application.
