Y2 to join World Affairs Conference on Feb. 2
The World Affairs Conference (WAC) is an annual student-run conference organized jointly by UCC and Branksome Hall. UCC will host and welcome 800 to 1,000 high-school students from Canada and beyond.
WAC seeks to highlight some of the world’s most pressing issues of today and stimulate debate on finding real or potential solutions to those crises. This year’s theme is “Fixing the 21st century.” The keynote address is on the evening of Monday, Feb. 1 and the plenary sessions all day on Tuesday, Feb. 2 will address the following issues:
- China and the Economy
- Drones: Weapons of War
- Environmental Responsibility
- Gender Income Disparities
- The Future of Nuclear Proliferation
- Refugee Response and Responsibility in Crisis
For further conference details, please visit www.world.ac
WAC is mandatory for all Y2 students who will be joining the Senior Division boys for the first time, so we expect a larger and more rigorous debate and discussion.
During the day, all boys will be expected to behave with the utmost decorum to ensure the smooth running of all plenaries for their fellow UCC students, the student guests from other schools and for the expert panel, plenary session leaders.
The conference promises to be a unique and powerful opportunity to further develop and apply strategic planning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they go through this intellectual exercise in a diverse setting full of many perspectives and opinions.
