World Affairs Conference keynote address on Feb. 5

Admit it. You’re already in a serious relationship with your cellphone. So fast forward a few years in this increasingly computer-dependent world and think of what kind of status update you’ll need to provide.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of today’s most profound paradigm shifts, and World Affairs Conference (WAC) keynote speaker Dr. Geoffrey Hinton will illuminate the profound impact that AI will have on our future. Hinton is a key player in the development of AI and one of the foundational players in the development of “neural networks” for AI.

Hinton will deliver the Lionel Gelber keynote address on Monday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in Laidlaw Hall to open WAC, Canada’s oldest, annual student-run current affairs conference.

This year’s WAC theme is “Paradigm Shifts,” and Hinton will discuss the consequential impacts that AI is having on everything, starting with the upheaval of the job market.

Hinton is featured in the current issue of Toronto Life.
