Wellbeing Update | Safety reminders

Over the next few weeks, teachers and advisers will be having discussions with the boys reminding them to be mindful of their personal safety as they travel to and from school. Recently, the school has been made aware of incidents at some of our neighbouring schools where students felt unsafe. As a precaution we’re taking the opportunity to remind the boys about the importance of being cautious, vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times.

To help facilitate conversations at home, here are “streetwise” tips and strategies from Toronto Police Services:

  • Inform others where you are going and when you are expected to return.
  • Do not walk alone, especially after dark.
  • Follow the safest route possible. Avoid shortcuts and deserted areas. Try to keep to well- lit, busy streets after dark. Walk on the side of the street where you can see clearly around you.
  • Avoid parks and green spaces after dark.
  • Do not walk and text at the same time. You will be less aware of what is happening around you.

It’s also worth reminding the boys to not use or be discreet about cell phones, earbuds and headphones, and other valuables, to avoid making themselves a target.

Please take a minute to talk with your son and share these safety reminders with him. As always, please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Kind regards,

Scott
