Welcome back message from Jim Power
I’d like to welcome you all back from vacation. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly boys grow and change over the summer months, and it’s always a pleasure to reconnect and hear all about their travels and adventures.
There’s been much change on campus too, as you’ll notice. We’re all excited about the sweeping reconfiguration and renovation of the Upper School’s first floor, which has increased the number of classrooms available at the school. No doubt you’ll familiarize yourselves with the new layout over the next few weeks. While the new back entrance to the Quad is still blocked off, the administration team is up and running in the front hall. You’ll find Connie Scire in reception as always, just to your right when you come in. I’m down at the Prep for the next few weeks, along with Barb Beecroft; you can call her at ext. 2274 or by email at email@example.com if you have further questions. We expect all work, specifically to the back entrance, to be fully complete by late fall.
On the divisional leadership front, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Naheed Bardai, our new Middle Division head. Born and raised in Toronto, Naheed spent the past nine years at The Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa, where he was principal of the Senior School (Grade 6-12) and diploma co-ordinator. I look forward to working closely with our division heads. As you know, they’re your key points of contact for operational matters and daily College life. New this year, they’re also part of the senior management team which gives them a more bird’s-eye view of the College’s executive-level functioning.
As you’re aware by now, this school year will be my last one before I head to Culver Academies in Indiana. I’m reassured by the excellent progress our search committee, with executive search consultant Caldwell Partners, is making to secure a leader to become UCC’s 19th principal. My commitment to the College remains as steadfast as ever; my goal is to make my final year a great one for you all. As well, it wouldn’t feel like September at UCC if we weren’t all gearing up for our 36th annual Association Day, slated for Saturday, Sept. 26. It’s one of our biggest community events, with sports events, food, arts and kids’ activities and much more. And be sure to stick around for a special announcement at 11:30 a.m. You can find the full schedule here: http://parents.ucc.on.ca/calendar/a-day/
Finally, as so much goes on at the school I’d like to remind you put aside 10 minutes each week to read carefully through your section of Head’s Up. It contains so much important information about your son’s life at the school. Also, be sure to bookmark our parents’ website, your one-stop for all UCC news and events. http://parents.ucc.on.ca/
All best wishes for a great school year,
