Wedd’s and Seaton’s Head of House elections for 2016-17
It’s an annual event for a community meeting to host the Head of House for the three finalists in Seaton’s and Wedd’s House. This year in Seaton’s, an unprecedented number of students declared their candidacy at the beginning of the process. Twelve students in Seaton’s wrote declarations and delivered speeches in the preliminary round. Six students stepped up when given the opportunity to represent their house on the Board of Stewards.
The three finalists in each house represent a cross-section of what makes the boarding community so strong. Gavin Jin hails from Shanghai, China, Jeff Collins is from El Paso, Texas, Colby Muise is a new boy from Yarmouth, N.S., Thomas Hickman is a second-generation boarder from St. John’s, N.L., Jake Gamoyda is from Orangeville, Ont. and Kal Shaw is from Whitby, Ont.
These six candidates bring all sorts of different experiences to the forefront. Jeff Collins just completed a five-month commitment to bring Hamlet to the stage. Thomas Hickman is a provincial-level rugby player. Colby Muise is the goalie on varsity hockey. Jake Gamoyda is a member of the junior varsity hockey team. Kal Shaw was captain of the varsity soccer team and a member of the jazz ensemble. Gavin Jin is completely devoted to the House activities after school and on weekends. Seaton’s and Wedd’s would do well to have any one of these boys representing their interests on the Board of Stewards. More importantly, all these boys are completely devoted to making the UCC boarding program as strong as ever.
Best of luck to all candidates and thank you to all those that put good work into their declarations and preliminary round speeches.
