Walter’s Weekly Fun Fact

While on campus, UCC students who are worried about being late for school are able to check the time with only a quick glance up at the College’s iconic Rogers Tower. However, students at Corpus Christi College, at the University of Cambridge, are to be forgiven for pausing for more than a minute in an attempt to ascertain the current time from the Corpus Christi Clock. The gold-plated clock features a large disc of concentric rings representing the Big Bang (the beginning of time), crowned by a chronophage (a large gold grasshopper) that continually “eats” each passing minute with its mechanical jaws. Fascinating, mysterious and somewhat terrifying, it is only fitting that the clock was unveiled by Cambridge physicist (and time expert) Stephen Hawking. Check it out:
