Update | IB exam schedule

The IB has confirmed that exams will take place in the 2021 May session. However, they have set two pathways for diploma completion: one with an exam and one without. The pathway a school takes is determined by its regional or national lockdown status and not on school or individual preference. If schools are open for face-to-face learning, IB exams will take place. Based on current circumstances in Toronto with all the information available, we anticipate that IB exams will occur at UCC.

While this direction poses some challenges, it’s important to remember that exams are a valuable learning opportunity that provide an experience that’s very useful for students particularly as they go on to study in university.

It’s also important to note that most IB courses have had significant reductions to assessments and exams. Students will write fewer exams in May than they would during a typical year. Please refer to the document Overview of amendments to DP. Additionally, the IB has communicated that grade boundaries will be informed by this year’s disruptions in learning and will be set in a manner that is sensitive to this.

Our international boarding students who cannot return to Toronto due to travel restrictions will write exams at an IB school near them. This will be arranged by my office.

For your planning and reference here is this year’s IB Exam Schedule.

We are confident that despite the challenges we can create a safe and comfortable exam experience for our students. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
