Upcoming university visits to UCC

Monday, November 17 @ 3:30 p.m. in the Faculty Seminar Room—University of Guelph

Home to the internationally renowned Ontario Veterinary College, the University of Guelph offers strong programs in both arts and science, although it is particularly recognized for its cutting-edge research in the biological sciences. It is one of the few schools in Canada that offers a business degree with a specialization in real estate. The university prides itself on providing a supportive environment for all students, especially those in first year. One-third of the majors have a co-op option. Click here for more information.

Wednesday, November 19 @ 3:30 p.m. in the Faculty Seminar Room—University of Guelph-Humber

Located on the western edge of Toronto, the University of Guelph-Humber’s academic program stresses “theoretical perspectives, practical training, and workplace experience.” Graduates earn a university honours degree and a specialized diploma. Thursday, November 20@ 12:30 p.m. in the Colborne Room—University of Ottawa

As Canada’s premier bilingual post-secondary institution, the University of Ottawa offers the option of French immersion studies in over fifty programs; students receive double credit for each immersion course in which they enrol. With forty-five co-op programs in management, science, arts, social sciences, and engineering, Ottawa has the third largest co-op program in the country. The university prides itself on being a research-intensive institution with special strengths in Canadian and international studies, molecular science, and health sciences. Bursaries of up to $2000 are available to those students wishing to study abroad for part of their program. Click here for more information.

Thursday, November 20 @ 3:30 p.m. in Room 131—University of Waterloo

Internationally known for innovation and academic excellence, especially in the fields of science and engineering, the University of Waterloo offers Canada’s largest co-operative education program with over 60% of its students enrolled in that option. Its teams routinely place in the top ten in international computing and mathematics competitions. The school has strong professional programs in optometry, engineering, and architecture; its graduates created the “Engineers without Borders” program. Many students are interested in the Arts & Business and Science & Business specialities; others are drawn to the extensive program offerings in the Faculty of Environment. The focus in the classroom may be rigorously academic, but the social atmosphere is relaxed, with a strong network operating through colleges, residences, and faculties. Friday, November 21 @ 12:20 p.m. in Room 131—University of Liverpool

Located in a vibrant metropolis, the University of Liverpool has invested heavily in teaching facilities and student accommodation in the past few years. Centralized, interdisciplinary labs bring together over 600 scientists to focus on the major health challenges of the 21st century. Highly rated programs include English, history, architecture, computer science, nursing, dentistry, and veterinary science. In 2006, the university opened a new university in Suzhou, China, in partnership with Xi’an Jiaotong University, allowing students easy access to work and study experiences in Asia.
