Upcoming university visits to UCC

Tuesday, November 12 @ lunchtime in Room 140—McMaster University

Hamilton’s McMaster University bills itself as a “student-centred, research-intensive” university with a number of innovative and extremely selective programs such as the Bachelor of Arts & Science, the Bachelor of Health Sciences and the Bachelor of Integrated Science. The Michael G. DeGroote School of Business has a simulated trading floor that helps students learn to evaluate market trends. With its ‘cutting-edge’ medical school, McMaster has tremendous appeal for our students who are interested in the life sciences and also in an inquiry-based learning style.

Tuesday, November 12 @ lunchtime in Room 128—University of Kent

The University of Kent combines a modern campus set in 300 acres of parkland with a location in the historic city of Canterbury, an easy train ride to London. Programs in archaeology, finance, history, and politics are particularly highly rated. The law program has an especially large contingent of Canadian students and offers several courses designed to make it easier to gain Canadian qualifications.

Wednesday, November 13 @ 3:30 pm in Room 140—Lakehead University

Located in Thunder Bay, Lakehead University offers many programs such as Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, Environmental Studies, Geography, and Geology that use fieldwork to complement the work in the classroom. With fewer than 8000 full-time undergraduate students, individual attention is guaranteed. Cutting-edge research is carried out in the Paleo-DNA Laboratory and the Biorefining Research Institute. The university hosts the West Campus of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.

Thursday, November 14 @ lunchtime in Room 140—UC Davis and UC San Diego

With a spacious campus in the northern part of the state, the University of California at Davis is renowned for the strength of its science programs, but also has much to offer students in humanities and social sciences. Undergraduates have good access to research positions and internships. The university honors program offers the experience of a selective liberal arts college with the resources and opportunities of a world-class research university.

A top research institution in beautiful La Jolla, the University of California at San Diego is one of the top-ranked schools in the University of California system. It has especially strong programs in oceanography, neuroscience, chemistry, engineering, theatre, and dance.
