Upcoming university visits to UCC

Monday, November 20 @ 3:30 p.m. in Room 127—Carleton University

A mid-sized university in Canada’s capital city, Carleton has recently undergone a $140 million building boom, reflecting its rising reputation for scientific research. The university is nationally known for its programs in journalism, engineering (especially in areas relating to “high tech”), business, public affairs, and basketball. Carleton offers one of the few undergraduate architecture programs in Canada. The elite College of Humanities (with an average entrance grade of 90%) allows students to study classics, history, philosophy, literature, and economics in a way that hones their analytical and writing skills. Newer programs include a combined program in biomedical and electrical engineering and degrees in bioinformatics and biostatistics.

Monday, November 20 @ 3:30 p.m. in Room 128—Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Founded in 1823 in Boston, MCPHS University specializes in health care education. It offers a wide range of pre-professional and professional programs.

Tuesday, November 21 @ 3:30 p.m. in Room 140—Queen’s University Bader International Study Centre

Students who think they might like to spend their first year of university in a castle in the south of England should investigate the Bader International Study Centre run by Queen’s University. Small class sizes, an emphasis on experiential learning, and numerous opportunities for European travel make this a unique introduction to post-secondary study. UCC Old Boys who have attended rave about the experience!

Friday, November 24 @ lunchtime in Room 128—Trinity College Dublin

Building on a four-century tradition of scholarship, Trinity College, Dublin ranks among the finest universities in Europe. The college is committed to excellence in both teaching and research. Undergraduates pursue a four-year degree with many opportunities for joint honours. Students may sit scholarship exams at the end of their second year in order to qualify for five years of free tuition and residence.
