Upcoming university counselling workshops
We have been very pleased by the good turnout at the workshops we have hosted so far this term. As application deadlines draw closer, a large number of additional workshops will be held; we urge students to add the relevant dates in their planners. Ideally, you should try to attend an Ontario Universities Application Center session before the out-of-province workshops so that you can put your OUAC reference number on these applications.
Friday, October 24 (lunchtime) in Room 131—early application workshop for Atlantic universities
Many universities in Atlantic Canada offer students the option of applying in the fall with strong Foundation Year grades. Students who do so may receive an offer of admission within 3-4 weeks of submitting their application. If you are interested in exploring this possibility, please attend the workshop; we will explain the best approach for completing the online applications. Students should bring their laptops. No registration is required for this session.
Monday, November 3 (lunchtime) in Room 131—University of California applications
Schools that belong to the University of California system do not use the Common Application. The system’s unique and, in some respects, rather tricky application should not be completed until students have attended this mandatory workshop. Please note that November 30 is the last date to submit University of California applications. If you are planning an application to one of these schools and have a conflict with the workshop time, please contact Ms Berndsen as soon as possible so that we can make other arrangements.
Monday, November 17 (lunchtime) in Room 131—University of British Columbia applications
The University of British Columbia requires students to self-report their grades. This mandatory workshop will assist applicants to complete the application correctly.
Tuesday, November 18 or Thursday, November 27 (lunchtime) in Room 131—McGill University applications
It is easy to make errors on this complex application. We recommend that all students applying to McGill University attend one of these sessions. It is often impossible to correct mistakes on the online application so it is important to follow instructions in order to avoid having to start again.
Wednesday, November 19 OR Monday, November 24 (lunchtime) in Room 302 (third floor creativity centre)—Queen’s University PSE
This workshop is designed to provide tips on how to write a strong Personal Statement of Experience for those applying to Queen’s University. This session will be especially important for those applying to Commerce as final admission decisions are based solely on the PSE once the minimum mark cut-off has been attained.
Tuesday, November 25 (lunchtime) in Room 131—University of Waterloo AIF
This session will provide instruction on how to complete the Additional Information Form required of applicants to the University of Waterloo.
Wednesday, November 26 OR Friday, November 28 (lunchtime) in Laidlaw Hall—Richard Ivey applications
Students who are applying to the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University will want to attend this session to pick up tips on how to craft a strong supplemental application.
