The IB advantage at Simon Fraser University and the University of Victoria
Simon Fraser University, once again a top comprehensive university in the Maclean’s ratings and a variety of other international rankings, recognizes the high quality of the IB diploma program by offering certain advantages to high school students enrolled in that program.
Students with a minimum interim total of 26 points (including diploma points) will qualify for early conditional admission to most programs. Applicants to the Beedie School of Business must also complete a supplemental application www.beedie.sfu.ca/bba/apply/cat1.php. Applications will be accepted from October 15 until February 28 and offers will be made between January and June. Students intending to apply must notify Ms Berndsen by listing SFU on their Naviance account—this will generate a request for transcripts.
One full year of transfer credit may be granted to students with a completed IB diploma (when all final grades are 4 or higher). SFU offers extensive co-op, mentorship and leadership programs. Its athletes compete in the NCAA.
The University of Victoria also places a high value on the IB diploma. Students with 28 points or more will be considered for early offers of admission. Those with 32 points or higher are guaranteed a scholarship of at least $2500. IB Diploma students are eligible for up to one full year of transfer credits, meaning that they can finish their degree in 3 years (if they wish).
