Student Initiative | Jordana’s Rainbows Holiday Gift Card Drive #JRHGCD
My name is Lucas Fiorini and I’m a student in Year 11. In 2016 my family and I founded The Jordana’s Rainbows Foundation in honour of my sister Jordana who passed away at the age of 10 from an aggressive brain stem tumour known as DIPG. Every holiday season for the past three years the Jordana’s Rainbows Foundation has hosted a Holiday Gift Card Drive for the Hospital for Sick Children. This year my younger brother Laurence (Year 7) and I are spearheading the gift card initiative.
This idea originated from my sister Jordana. She had spent her last holidays at SickKids hospital and felt so badly when she saw the children at the hospital, like herself, receive donated gifts that seemed age insensitive or outdated from years prior. With children of various ages at the hospital, she thought it would so great for the children and their families to receive a gift card that would allow the children and their families to purchase a gift they truly desire. Sometimes even the simplest act as receiving a gift card for a cup of coffee is comfort for a parent who is at the hospital. It’s a thoughtful reminder and affirmation that others are thinking of you and your child and wishing well; that ultimately you are not alone and not forgotten at this very special time of year.
Due to COVID-19, the Holiday Gift Card Drive this year is entirely online. I am asking the UCC community to help us to continue to raise awareness and support the Jordana’s Rainbows Holiday Gift Card drive by sharing this video. You can also follow @jordanasrainbows on Instagram too. The gift card drive will run through to December 1st, Giving Tuesday.
