Is your son interested in STEM? Is he a budding entrepreneur?
Each year, the SHAD Valley program invites over 600 students from across Canada and around the world to attend a month-long summer program at one of 12 Canadian university campuses. Applicants are chosen based on exceptional academic achievement, initiative, drive and creativity.
Programming is built around a different theme each year. Students engage in lectures, workshops, projects and activities. Participants work with peers to find bold solutions to complex problems. Students create a product or service, conduct market surveys, draft business plans and engineer working prototypes. The winning team from each campus is invited to the national competition in the fall.
The online application can be found here: http://www.shad.ca/
Apply.htm. The early deadline (for top consideration) is Wednesday, Nov. 26; the final deadline is Thursday, Dec. 11. Students must write an application essay and ask a teacher to write a reference on their behalf.
The 2015 program runs July 5 to 31. The cost (covering everything but transportation) is $4,500 but scholarships and bursaries are available.
