Socks 4 Souls sock drive Feb. 24 – March 5

Donation boxes to collect new/unused socks for Socks 4 Souls Canada will be in the front foyer of the Upper School from Feb. 24 – March 5.
After realizing the importance of socks for the homeless, I was inspired to organize a sock drive to help those living on the streets in our city. I learned that socks are one of the most desperately needed yet least donated items to homeless shelters, and more than 20% of medical issues experienced by homeless individuals are related to poor hygiene as a result of lacking proper socks. The need for socks only becomes even more urgent during the winter, as homeless individuals rely on walking as their main method of transportation. They are at risk of developing a variety of diseases such as frostbite, trench foot, impetigo, cellulitis, fungal infection, and skin breakdown if they do not have warm socks. I have partnered with Socks 4 Souls Canada, an experienced Canadian charity that will distribute the socks collected at UCC to homeless shelters around Toronto and Southwestern Ontario.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could donate to this important cause, to help alleviate the difficulty faced by homeless individuals living in our city during this harsh season. Socks 4 Souls only accepts new/unused socks and are most in need of male, adult-size, cotton socks. Homeless individuals have limited or no access to laundry facilities, so it would be ideal to donate as many socks as possible, to ensure that these individuals can have a supply of socks for the winter. The drive runs between Feb. 24 – March 5, with collection boxes placed in the foyer of the front Upper School entrance. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me dimitri.oreopoulos@ucc.on.ca.
Thanks in advance for your generosity, and I am excited to see how many socks we can collect.
