Heads Up

Welcome to Heads Up, your one-stop source for news about your son’s upcoming activities and events.

Save these dates for next September!

Students who like to plan ahead should mark the following dates in their calendars for next fall:

Monday, September 11 6:30-9 p.m. in the Student Centre—“Best of U” British University Evening

Explore the benefits of attending a top UK university! Representatives from Bristol, Durham, Newcastle, Southampton, Warwick and York will offer an overview of their institutions and be available to answer your questions.

Tuesday, September 12 @ lunchtime—Canadian Scholarship workshop

This is a session for those who missed the workshop last spring. If you are intending to explore Canadian scholarship options, this is a highly useful workshop.

Wednesday, September 13 6:00-7:30 p.m.—Mandatory UK Workshop

At this workshop, we will introduce you to the key features of the UCAS website and provide you with the “buzzword” you will need to begin your application. You will complete all parts of your UCAS application, except perhaps the program choices and personal statement, which can be finalized at a later meeting with your counsellor.

You are encouraged to use the UCAS website to conduct research on university/program choices and you should start writing your personal statement; however, do not set up a UCAS account in the summer as you need to do this in September through UCC.

Sunday, September 17 1:00-2:30 p.m. OR Wednesday, September 20 8:00-9:30 a.m. OR Wednesday, September 27 8:00-9:30 a.m. —US Common Application Workshop

At this workshop, we will take you through the key features of the Common Application website and provide you with tips in order to complete the application effectively. The activities section and personal essay will be finalized at subsequent meetings with your counsellor.

More details about registration for these workshops will be available in the first week of the fall term. At that time, we will also have information about other Canadian and US application workshops that will be scheduled into spares and lunches.

Reminder: If you set up your Common Application account this summer, please use your UCC email; this is essential in order to link your account with Naviance in the fall.
