Rao Cup chess tournament
On Sunday, Nov. 7, UCC boarders gathered in the Student Centre for the annual Seaton’s versus Wedd’s chess tournament. Mr. Bushey was the coordinator of the event; he worked closely with student supervisors, Ben van Meggelen and Jad Oklany to ensure a successful event. There were five timed games that occurred simultaneously. Opponents were chosen through a random draw. There were some exciting matches and plenty of observers eagerly awaiting the outcome. In the end, everyone was a winner. The Rao Cup is named after two brothers who were boarders in the 1980s. They were so eager to meet as many boarders as possible that they chose to be in different houses. The chess tournament is another example of an event that draws students from both houses together on weekends for friendly competition. This meeting of the chess minds on Sunday afternoon is another example of how life-long friendships are developed in Seaton’s and Wedd’s.
