PYP Exhibition update
Year 5 boys had their first mentor meetings this week, where they shared their group agreements, problem-solving strategies and early research with their mentor.
At each meeting, boys are expected to set up their next meeting time and record this on their class’ exhibition board.
By the end of this week, boys will have examined the key concepts of form and function and started to go deeper by inquiring into causation, change and connection into their line of inquiry. Next week will be a short one for research due to student-led conferences on Friday. Extra research support will be available on student-led conference day. Your son may be asked to attend a session (for an hour or two) between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Your son’s form teacher will communicate with you if attendance for a session is recommended. Sessions will be supported by teaching assistants and the Primary Years Program (PYP) coordinator.
Each group will work on creating a central idea for their group next week. As they deepen their understanding through research of their individual issues, they’ll begin to see connections to other issues in their group. To have some fun with central ideas, boys will write central ideas for recess and family.
We hope you’re enjoying rich exhibition-related conversations at home and that you enjoyed your son’s learning log SeeSaw entry from last week.
The PYP Exhibition is a collaborative project in school and attendance is important. Please keep planned absences to a minimum during this time.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend PYP Exhibition day on Friday, May 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. to celebrate your son’s learning and action.
