Prep Event | Pride Week
This year the Prep will recognize Pride Week from October 19 to 23 as LGBTQ2S+ History Month is held in October. As part of UCC’s commitment to pluralism we will raise awareness of the LGBTQ2S+ community, promote inclusion, diversity and the idea of being an ally to others.
The rainbow flag will be flying at both main buildings on campus, and students were informed about Pride Week in assemblies this week during which a reading about the creation of the rainbow flag was shared. Throughout the week our librarian, Ms. McKinney, will be sharing other stories connected to the themes of acceptance, identity and being an ally. A video of statements of allyship from faculty and staff will be available for classes to view. Wednesday, October 21 will be ‘Express Yourself’ day when we encourage everyone to dress to express who they are and what is important to them.
We are committed to encouraging our students to be open minded, accepting of differences and respectful of each other.
“An inclusive curriculum supports students’ abilities to empathize, connect, and collaborate with a diverse group of peers, skills that are of increasing importance in our multicultural, global society.” (GLSEN)
