Prep Earth Week: Blues go Green

The Eco-Warriors are pleased to present Prep Earth Week from April 23 to 26. The theme of International Earth Day 2019 is “Protect our Species.” A variety of events and initiatives will raise awareness about environmental issues, with a focus on biodiversity/species preservation.

Events All Week:

World Wildlife Fund – Adopt a Species/Family
Bring in a toonie to donate to the WWF to help the Prep support a whole family of endangered animals. Money will be collected in home form.

Green Way to School
Everyone is encouraged to use green methods of transportation such as walking, cycling, TTC, hybrid vehicle or carpooling with another person. Students and staff arriving in a carbon-friendly way should check in from 8 to 8:30 a.m. in the Bitove Lounge to earn House points.

Campus Clean-up Stewardship Events

Daily Events:

Tofu Tuesday
“Meatless Monday” is an international initiative that aims to improve the health of the planet and individuals. The Prep will be following this idea by serving a meat-free hot lunch, and by encouraging students to bring a meat-free lunch from home.

Water-Wise Wednesday
Students, parents, and teachers are welcome to purchase plants sold by the Eco-Warriors. These plants, such as succulents and cacti, require very little water and are a wonderful addition to your home. Students and teachers are also encouraged to bring in their own reusable water bottles today. Those who do can check in with the Eco-Warriors in the morning for extra House points.

Thermostat Thursday
In order to reduce our energy consumption, the Prep will be lowering the temperature of the school by a few degrees. Though it is not a casual dress day, students can wear any sweater they wish on top of their standard uniform.

Free from Food-waste Friday
There will be a friendly competition between the Primary and Middle classes to see who can produce the least amount of food waste at lunch. The Prep hot lunch will be conscious of serving sizes to promote less food waste. Students are also encouraged to bring food and snacks from home that will not produce any excess waste.

For more detailed information and a full schedule, see the Eco Bulletin Board in the Science Hallway. We look forward to seeing everyone out participating in Earth Week events.
