Parent instructions for accessing Haiku

Haiku

We’ll use the Haiku learning management system in the Middle Division at the Prep this year to help our students stay organized and share course information such as the course outline and daily homework. The Upper School has been using Haiku since last year with great success.

If you haven’t already, we suggest that you sit down with your son and have him show you Haiku. He’ll be able to show you what he knows about the system, as it’s introduced through the first weeks of the school year. Ask him where he can find his homework and course calendars.

In the Middle Division, all parents of Form 6 and 7 students will have access to their son’s courses with their own login and password. We hope that this access will facilitate conversations with your son about keeping himself on track and organized, especially as the school year and extracurricular activities get busy. As a parent, your view of the courses will be slightly different from your son’s view. You’ll be able to see any content that’s posted by teachers (homework, course outline, etc.), but won’t be able to see any student interactions (discussions, polls, assessments, etc.).

For our Form 7 students, we’ll remove parent access in January in order to encourage the boys to become more independent and manage their workload on their own. Although you’ll no longer have access to his Haiku courses through your own login, please continue to have conversations with your son about homework and deadlines. In this way, we hope to prepare the boys for independently managing their workload at the Upper School next year.
