Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) for Year 9 students
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is used to determine whether a student has the reading and writing skills required to meet the standard for understanding reading selections and communicating in a variety of forms expected by the Ontario Curriculum across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9.
The OSSLT is a requirement of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
When: Wednesday, March 27
Who: Students in Year 9 or who are new to the College in Years 10 through 12, or who didn’t write the test last year when in Year 9, will write the OSSLT.
Where: 8:30 a.m. in the Lett Gym (8:00 a.m. in Room 223 for students with testing accommodations). Students are asked to report to the Lett Gym by 8:15 a.m. and to Room 223 by 7:45 a.m.
How do we help students prepare?
• All students are provided with hard copy sample question and answer booklets to review and complete for practice during March Break.
• All students can use the OSSLT Prep Site, accessible at bit.ly/OSSLTPrep with a UCC account, for extra multiple choice and open response practice questions.
• Targeted OSSLT preparation workshops are scheduled in all Year 9 English classes, for Year 10 through 12 students, and in learning strategies classes leading up to and following March Break.
• Hard copies of additional OSSLT resources are available in the Wernham West Centre for Learning.
Please contact Barbara Kawasoe or Lincoln Smith if you have any questions.
