Ontario Model United Nations

On the weekend of April 6 to 7 students from across the Greater Toronto Area gathered to discuss and debate some of the most challenging issues facing society today. Over 300 delegates were on campus during the weekend, and an organizing committee of over 40 students put the whole event together. Economics teacher Matt Griem is the faculty member in charge of co-ordinating OMUN events during the year.
Kathleen Wynne, the current MPP for Don Valley West and the 25th Premier of Ontario was the keynote speaker at the event. A community activist, Wynne was first elected to public office as a Toronto District School Board Trustee in 2000. She subsequently was elected to the Provincial Legislature in 2003. Under Premier Dalton McGuinty she served in various cabinet posts, including as the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and Aboriginal Affairs until resigning to run as a Liberal Party leadership candidate when McGuinty announced his resignation in 2012.
UCC boarders played significant roles in the weekend long event. The accompanying photos gives you a snapshot into what was happening on campus last weekend. Thanks so much to faculty member Fatima Remtulla for proving the photos, to Nili Isaacs from the University Counselling office for providing support, and of course to Matt Griem, whose tireless work has created fantastic leadership opportunities for our boarders
