Important information about Ontario Literacy test

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is used to determine whether a student has the literacy (reading and writing) skills required to meet the standard for understanding reading selections and communicating in a variety of forms expected by the Ontario Curriculum across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. The OSSLT is a requirement of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

When: Thursday, March 30
Who: Students in Year 2 or are new to the College in Foundation Year or IB1, or who did not write the test last year when in Y2 will write the OSSLT.
Where: 8:30 a.m. in the Lett Gym (8 a.m. in CC3/302 for students with testing accommodations). Students are asked to report to the gym by 8:15 a.m. and to CC3/302 by 7:45 a.m.

How do we help students prepare?

  • All students will be provided with hard copy sample question and answer booklets, to review and complete for practics.
  • OSSLT Preparation Workshops have been scheduled in all Y2 English classes and in Learning Strategies classes.
  • An additional workshop is being offered for ELL students (Monday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. in the Senior Division CFL classroom)
  • Additional OSSLT resources are available in the CFL (hard copies) and on the CFL’s Haiku site.
