Important information about the Ontario Literacy Test
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is used to determine whether a student has the literacy (reading and writing) skills required to meet the standard for understanding reading selections and communicating in a variety of forms expected by the Ontario Curriculum across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. The OSSLT is a requirement of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
When: Thursday, March 26, 2015
Who: Students in Year 2 or are new to the College in Foundation Year or IB1, or who didn’t write the test last year when in Y2, will write the OSSLT.
Where: 8:30 a.m. in the Lett Gym (8 a.m. in CC3/302 for students with testing accommodations). Students are asked to report to the gym by 8:15 a.m. and to CC3/302 by 7:45 a.m.
How do we help students prepare? All students will be provided with hard copy sample question and answer booklets to review and complete for practice. OSSLT preparation workshops have been scheduled in all Y2 English classes and in Learning Strategies classes.
An additional workshop is being offered for ELL students (Monday, March 2 at 7:15 p.m. in the Senior Division Centre for Learning classroom). Other literacy resources are available in the CFL (hard copies) and on the CFL’s Haiku site.
