Fall at Norval is a time of beautiful colours. There will be lots of evidence of wildlife as most animals are preparing for winter. Come join us for an outdoor getaway with friends and family members. Dogs on a leash are welcome too. We’ll offer  a wide variety of activities, including:

Camp out at Norval:
There’s a maximum of 30 spots for those who wish to camp out on the Saturday night before the open house. RSVP to reserve your spot. You may arrive any time after 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18. Please bring your own tent, sleeping bags and food for dinner. The staff at Norval can also recommend a few restaurants in town. There will be an environmental film festival going on in Stephen House that evening as well as a campfire and S’Mores. If you’re willing to brave the cold night, the Norval staff is willing to cook you a pancake breakfast the next morning.

Plant a tree at Norval:
Norval needs trees. Many of the coniferous plantation forests at Norval were thinned recently to encourage growth of a wider variety of tree species. The UCC Green School and Norval invite your family to help us grow healthier, more natural forests at Norval by planting a tree while you’re at our open house. You can help in one of three ways:

i) Bring your own tree. Any native tree species will do – maple, ash, cedar, pine, willow and so on. You can use one of our shovels to plant it or bring your own.
ii) Plant one of our trees. The UCC Green School has generously offered to purchase a number of native tree saplings for planting at the family open house.
iii) Plant some seeds. We have lots of native trees at Norval, but they’re too far away for their seeds to reach the plantation forests.

With the help of student volunteers from the Green School, you can collect seeds from large healthy trees like oak, hickory and maple and plant them in the plantation forests where they’re most needed.

Pumpkin carving:
Come carve a pumpkin on the back patio of Stephen House. We’ll have a selection of medium-sized pumpkins available, or feel free to bring your own.

Fall colours hike:
Come explore Norval at this beautiful time of year. We’ll have one long hike starting at 1:15 p.m. and a shorter one at 2 p.m.

Mountain biking: Weather permitting, come try our brand new Coles Creek mountain biking trail. The minimum age is 10 years old. Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All riders must wear bicycle helmets. Please bring your own bikes.

RSVP the number of people attending to Samantha Kerbel at association@ucc.on.ca or 1-800-822-5361. Please indicate if you’ll be camping.

Take Highway 401 west to Winston Churchill Boulevard. Follow Winston Churchill north and go through the village of Norval. Continue straight ahead. The entrance to the Norval property is on your left, 1.2 kilometres north of the village stoplight. The drive takes about 50 minutes from UCC in light traffic.
