Message from Tom Babits, head, Primary Division
As I write to you this Thursday morning, the school is literally buzzing with excitement. Smiling faces and the well-polished new shoes are around every corner. This is how it’s supposed to be.
One parent, possibly inadvertently, greeted me with “happy new year” this morning. And indeed it is a very happy, new year. Whether it is to work harder, be a good friend, or be more focused during lessons, the start of the school year is a time to commit to goals, or in other words, make resolutions. Perhaps you can ask your son what his goals are for the year?
As a reminder, Monday, Sept. 8, is our parent information evening. You’ll have the opportunity to meet your son’s form teacher and all his other teachers as well. A couple of important notes regarding school routines follows.
Fall Norval dates
Norval permission forms will be distributed during the first few weeks of September. On the day of departure, boys should report to their form room at the normal time wearing their casual Norval clothes. The bus returns from Norval by 3 p.m., dependent upon traffic conditions, and students will be dismissed at their regular dismissal time. Please note that we attempt to program around important religious holy days as much as possible. However, in some cases (particularly Norval), this proves impossible, as it would push Prep trips into dates in which weather conditions would adversely affect programs. We fully honour and respect family wishes to have their boys remain at home and we ask you to contact your son’s teacher, who will help make arrangements with the Norval director.
• Teachers of SK to Form 2 will have their boys outside by 3:10 p.m. for pick-up at the Peacock Arch. Teachers of Form 3 to 4 will have their boys outside by 3:20 p.m. for pick-up (Form 3 at the Peacock Arch, Form 4 by the Parkin south entrance).
• Form 5 boys are dismissed from their classrooms at 3:30 p.m. Boys are expected to gather their belongings and be outside promptly for pick-up at the north Parkin Building hard surface. College employees will direct you to that area. In the interest of the well-being of all students, we ask for your co-operation to follow these procedures:
• Plan to arrive as close to dismissal time as possible to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. The areas around the Prep are “no idle” zones. Please minimize your fuel consumption and contribute to a healthier atmosphere.
• Please don’t park in the pick-up/drop-off zones and leave your car. If you need to park, use the visitor parking along the drive between the Upper School and the Prep, in the arena parking lot or off grounds.
Please follow the directions of College employees. I look forward to greeting you on Monday evening.
