Message from Tom Babits, head, Primary Division

Tom Babits

At today’s assembly, the boys focused on the idea of gratitude. There was a student presentation and a few spontaneous expressions of gratitude by Ms. Arruda, Mr. Ferley, and a visiting Middle Years student. Here is an excerpt from my talk:

“So it’s a kind of feeling. But here’s something really interesting: You don’t have to wait for it to just happen to you. Being a grateful person is something you can practise. You see, like all aspects of your character, it’s like a muscle. If you exercise it, it gets stronger. So, people who practise gratitude become more grateful.

People who become more grateful develop a more optimistic outlook on things. They see the good in lots of things and believe that we can make a big, positive difference in the world: Being awesome. That means, by practising gratitude, we can be… awesome.

Let’s listen to the president, talk to us about being awesome:

I then played them a short video (which unfortunately didn’t work out well due to AV gremlins). Drat! They may have had the opportunity to see it in class and talk about it. Here it is for you: Kid President’s Pep Talk to Teachers and Students

I challenged the boys to practise gratitude in school, and at home. What better time to build that character muscle, than on Thanksgiving?

I wish everyone a wonderful weekend.  Please remember it’s a half day tomorrow.  Students in SK to Form 5 will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m.
