Message from Ian Robinson, head of Middle Division

ianrobinson2I would invite you all to read the article on the traffic situation at UCC in the Whole School part of Heads Up. Just to add to that article, we really appreciate enormously the original comments (many from parents) that helped to create the initiative to make these improvements and the support and cooperation that 99 per cent of the drivers have exhibited on a daily basis. The change in time and anxiety has been huge and now it’s up to all of us to ensure that this approach continues to be respected, whether there are people on duty or not.

There are still some days that are tougher than others, and please allow me to make a couple of suggestions about pick-up. We shall work on getting the boys ready at the advertised time, but one thing that would greatly improve pick-up and would help us is if cars could be here after the advertised time, not at that time and not before. We are talking a few minutes here, but having 10-plus cars waiting for 15 minutes and taking all the spaces isn’t helpful.

Having attended my first basketball and hockey games of the year this week, I’ve now mentally put away my soccer cleats — although not before playing for the Prep faculty and staff against the Upper School in the bubble. Scores are irrelevant, as we Torontonians all know, but suffice it to say that the Prep can hold its head high. Did I mention the score? No? Well it was 2-1 for the Prep, but scores don’t really matter, do they?

Lastly, we’ve enjoyed stunning assemblies this week. With strong messaging on how men must treat women, on bullying, and this morning an emphasis at the Primary assembly on music beautifully played by the Form 7 Concert Band and a Form 5 French rap excellently demonstrated, it really does show so clearly how much we learn at every assembly.

With the Festival of Carols at the Upper School on Sunday afternoon, the December concert at the Prep on Monday and the Middle Division three-way conferences on Thursday and Friday, we’re in for another treat of a week.

Very best wishes and see you in the halls.
Ian.
