Message from Year 6

This is the most exciting time of the year in Year 6. The Norval trips are a highlight for the boys, lasting four extremely busy, fun-packed days. They can look forward to making some of their own meals, campfires and the infamous, revamped “Trappers and Traders” game. For the first time, the boys are doing archery. Team-building is central to all of the activities, as the class will solve challenging dilemmas together.

Back at the Prep, we are in full swing with the hockey and basketball seasons. The teams are working hard and learning good sportsmanship, with some impressive results. Last week was our exciting hockey and U12A basketball trip to Montreal. The boys had a great time bonding on the bus and living with their billets. Our intramural league combines basketball and ice hockey in a competition for the “Caesar Salad Bowl.”

In design class, the boys are continuing to work on their automatons. They are excited to be using saws, power drills, sanders and other equipment for the first time, after a thorough training session. In math class, boys are using the book The Number Devil to explore advanced concepts like the Fibbonacci Sequence and other number patterns. In language and literature the boys will begin a novel study on the Global Read Aloud Award-winning novel Refugee.

One exciting new event on the horizon is a French field trip on March 5 organized by the French language acquisition department. News for that trip will be available in a future edition of Heads Up.
