Heads Up

Welcome to Heads Up, your one-stop source for news about your son’s upcoming activities and events.

Message from Year 4

We’re sure you have heard many stories of our epic Norval bike trip. We had a fantastic time, filled with adventures including trail riding, cycling into strong winds, riding planes and quiet time in magic spots. The boys were keen, attentive and supportive.

It’s a rite of passage for Year 4 boys and we’re very proud of them for their perseverance. We thank all parents for helping to bring the bicycles in. We would also like to acknowledge Clara Leung, Stephanie Sykes, Sarah Baker, Martha Weeman and Amy Langlois for ordering and organizing the amazing T-shirts. There was no way people could miss the Year 4 boys on this cycling trip.

Thanks also go to the Norval staff. Many parents haven’t met the inspiring and fun individuals who make these trips happen. They organize a cycling trip with 39 boys, 10 teachers, one cube van and two police escorts (along with 15 airplane rides and ice cream sandwiches along with way).

If your son has any special memories of this trip, we encourage you to email Bill Elgie at belgie@ucc.on.ca. He can share them with the Norval staff.

Tomorrow is Prep Games Day. The boys will play fun games with their colour house in the morning and afterwards will watch the Kraft Check Bolt on the oval. The boys will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. There’s no after-school program.

We will continue to delve into the “Survivor” unit next week. They’ve already begun to explore the survival theme through their book clubs. Your son should be reading his book at home. While there’s no written work, please talk to him about his novel. Ask him about his favourite parts, interesting characters and connections to the survival theme.

We’re finishing the final math unit of the year as we investigate area and perimetre. The boys will explore the concept of area and then learn the formula for finding the area of a variety of polygons.
