Message from Year 3
Dear Year 3 community,
We are now engaged in exploring our unit of inquiry, “Perspectives,” through a series of exciting activities. We are learning about how we can learn from each other’s perspectives and about helpful ways to communicate our own perspectives. We have been reading different cultural versions of Cinderella and have been comparing the many versions during class discussion times. We strongly encourage to follow up with your son and ask him about some of his favourite activities.
We thank you for the at-home support of our Bunnicula novel study. Although we read the story with the boys at school and help the boys with their comprehension questions, it is really important that they get a second pass of the reading material at home. You do not have to sit with your son while he completes his comprehension questions, but we strongly suggest either you, another family member or a caregiver re-read the assigned sections with your son. This will help deepen his comprehension and give him an opportunity to ask you questions.
We look forward to a class visit from Leanne Harris on the following dates, Thursday, April, 4 for 3C and Monday, April, 8 for 3F. Leanne Harris is a social studies resource specialist consultant for the Toronto District School Board. She will be helping us launch our next unit, “Where We Are in Place and Time,” by bringing in and sharing many pioneer artifacts. We will share pictures from the visit on Seesaw. Again, we encourage you to ask your son about these visits as it will help improve his understanding of the purpose.
The boys have been busily preparing for Student-Led Conferences, by reviewing and discussing their work with their peers and teachers. Please make sure that you sign up for your meeting time. The interviews are scheduled for Friday, April 12. We look forward to seeing you at that time.
