Message from Year 3
We are nearing the end of our third unit of inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time. The boys have worked diligently to develop their skills in reading non-fiction text. They have enjoyed investigating some of the First Nations Peoples’ that lived in Canada in the 1800s and researching some of their traditions and historical territories. They also learned about their interactions with some of the first European settlers, as well the numerous challenges that the European settlers encountered.
The students have also benefited from participating in many pioneer activities. They have enjoyed playing marbles and will soon have the chance to make candles and small model log cabins. Please talk to your son about his butter-making experience. A fun follow-up at home could potentially be making some butter there! It is super easy and very yummy! If you would like some further details please reach out to your sons’ Form Advisor. We hope that you have had a chance to look at some of the photos that were posted on Seesaw that showed our pioneer based Norval experience.
In math, we are in the midst of our geometry unit. Students have been learning about some of the properties of geometric shapes and also learning about perimeter and area. The boys are working to develop their understanding of these concepts through small group projects, artwork and daily work. Our unit will span until the end of the month, at which time we transition our focus to multiplication and division.
Please continue to be diligent about sending your son to school with appropriate winter clothing and clearly label his clothes to ensure they are not misplaced.
Thank you for your continued support.
