Heads Up

Welcome to Heads Up, your one-stop source for news about your son’s upcoming activities and events.

Message from Year 2

Where has January gone? Plenty of great learning continues to happen in 2F as we question and wonder, investigate, reflect and discuss. We have wrapped up unit four in “Everyday Mathematics” and have begun unit five which focuses on geometry. The three concepts that we will be learning about are 3-dimensional shapes, 2-dimensional shapes and lines of symmetry. Vocabulary such as line segment, parallel lines, polygons, face and vertex will be introduced and used throughout our investigations.

Our “Mad about Mapping” inquiries continue to move along beautifully. We hope you enjoyed the continent and ocean song and their continent research projects that we posted onto Seesaw this week. If your son’s hasn’t been posted yet, stay tuned next week!  To further examine the central idea, “How maps help us to understand our connections to places and people,” each boy will now begin to create a travel brochure about their continent based upon their research. As an avenue to demonstrate their understanding of this unit, this summative assessment provides the boys with a creative opportunity to answer four questions: Explain where in the world your continent is located? How would you travel to your continent from Toronto? How do the landscape and natural resources of your continent affect leisure, lifestyle and jobs? What items and accessories would you include in your packing list? Don’t be surprised if you get some requests to now take a “field trip” to these places to further their understanding.
