Heads Up

Welcome to Heads Up, your one-stop source for news about your son’s upcoming activities and events.

Message from Tom Babits, Head, Primary Division

Tom BabitsDear parents,

We had a beautiful final Primary Division assembly today. In addition to celebrating a great year of learning and growth, the Year 5s were honoured with some additional focus as they leave the Primary Division and the PYP, and move on to the MYP in the Middle Division. I hope you can take the time to view the videos in this edition of Heads Up.

As the 2016-2017 school year draws to a close I’d like to draw your attention to a few things:

Monday, June 12 is the final day of this school year. Monday will be a casual dress day. Students in SK to Form 5 will be dismissed at 1:40 p.m. There won’t be an after-school program on that day and students should be picked up immediately following dismissal. Your son may have extra items to carry home on Monday. It would be helpful for him to come to school with an empty bag.

We’ve been blessed to have absolutely superb educators with us in teaching assistant (TA) roles, and they’ve all made huge contributions to student learning and been a big part of school life at the Prep. Four of our TAs are completing their contracts and will be leaving us at the end of this year. We will miss each of them greatly. We will be saying goodbye to:

  • Blair Yungblut
  • Destiny Franco
  • Courtney Hogan
  • Reggie Reyes

I would also like to thank Donna Scott, who capably stepped in as our art teacher after Monika Kastelic went on leave with the birth of Phoebe. Donna will be continuing her international teaching adventures in Istanbul. Congratulations! We’re currently in the midst of a search for a Primary art teacher as Monika will be returning in September 2018.

Sean Kelly, Norval instructor, will also leave the school in June and we wish him all the best. We also bid farewell to Adrienne Fisher in our library who is retiring after 19 years at the Prep. Adrienne’s presence will be missed, not only as an expert in children’s literature, but also as a caring and compassionate educator and colleagues. We wish her well in retirement.

Chantal Kenny, Executive Director of Admission, will also be departing this month.  She’s been an integral part of the Prep for 30 years as a French teacher, form master, head of the French Department, and most recently, as part of the Admissions team.  We thank her for her valuable contribution to the school and wish her all the best in this new stage of her life.

As of this date, I’m pleased to confirm faculty form teacher assignments for the 2017-2018 school year:

Michael Bushey will be moving to Year 4-4B.
Paul Faggion will be moving to Year 5-5F.
All other form teachers will stay the same.

New TAs will be announced at the start of the school year.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Lori Elder for her dedicated leadership of the Prep Parents’ Organization. Her tireless efforts to co-ordinate and lead parent support of important initiatives and the day-to-day operation of the school has been invaluable, and I’ve appreciated her pleasant persistence at every turn.

Warmest regards to all for a safe and enjoyable summer break. I look forward to seeing you in September.
