Message from Tom Babits, Head, Primary Division
Andrea Russel, our 3F and Form 5 TA will be running a workshop in Sioux Lookout, Ont. this weekend facilitating a professional development institute with 42 teachers from the area. The workshop is called “Making authentic inquiry work! Exploring transformative pedagogies using professional inquiry methods.”
Jennifer Harper (5H) wil be giving a workshop at a science and technology conference to a group of teachers from the Toronto District School Board. She’ll discuss how to ask questions to drive inquiry.
Our teachers regularly attend professional development activities. In addition to PYP training, recent topics have included new approaches to word study, brain development and professional learning communities.
This past weekend, I was at meetings and a professional development conference for school leaders. Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) includes more than 90 schools in Canada, Bermuda, the Dominican Republic and Switzerland. All CAIS schools commit to undergoing a reflective and collaborative school improvement process, meet national standards and participate in research and professional development.
I hope you enjoyed your student-led conference today (SLCs). It’s a special day for your son. In addition to a rich learning experience in itself, SLCs are intended to give you an authentic window into your son’s learning.
We look forward to the Blue Ties breakfast tomorrow morning and Earth Week next week.
