Message from Tanya Sweeney, Head, Preparatory School
Thank you for reading Heads Up this year and providing feedback on how we might improve our communications. I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading the ‘stories of school’ that our teachers share, and that they’ve offered you an inside look at the Prep and all it offers our boys.
The Prep is saying goodbye to a few of our valued colleagues. Laura Heyes, our Senior Kindergarten teacher, will be teaching closer to home. Sarah Campbell, our Year 4 Teaching Assistant, is moving out of the Toronto area. And of course, Kathryn Edmondson, who has served the College for 31 years as the Primary Music Teacher, is retiring. Thank you to each of them for their service to our community and most importantly to our students. We wish them each a fond farewell and an invitation to come back and visit.
We also have a few colleagues who are taking leaves of absence to enjoy opportunities for additional learning or travel. Those individuals are Jill Stewart, Peter Gray, and David Girard.
In August we will share with you a fulsome list of Prep faculty and staff for the 2019-2020 academic year. While things are well in order, we have a few last steps to take to finalize additional or changing teaching assignments. We will also be sharing information on uniform, textbooks, and school lunches to assist you in preparing for your son’s success next year.
Thank you most sincerely for your warm welcome to the UCC community this year. A parent commented to me this morning that I am probably ready for a break. And while that’s true, it has been a very personally and professionally rewarding year. I feel very lucky to serve Upper Canada College.
