Message from Tanya Sweeney, Head, Preparatory School

Dear Prep families,

I hope the first few weeks back to school have been positive and productive for your boys! I had the pleasure of attending the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Conference in San Diego last week. I felt lucky to collaborate in this learning experience with colleagues Jennifer Harper and Mark Ferley from the Prep and Andrew MacDougall from the Upper School.

Most workshops focused on what we can do as teachers to make our instruction the best it can be. Many of our classes highlighted the value of making thinking and reasoning visible, and of offering more relevant, engaging, and collaborative activities in the Mathematics classroom. We look forward to exploring how this learning experience will enrich our collaborative, collegial work with your sons.

Looking forward to next week, we’ll welcome a group of colleagues to assist us in our re-accreditation with the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools. This is a wonderful opportunity for an  introspective experience, beginning with a rigorous self-study and concluding with a visit by colleagues from schools around Canada and internationally. The process is ongoing, as we expect to be continually learning, growing and improving in our practice. Your sons may mention that they’ve had a visitor to their learning spaces. How wonderful is it for our students to see that their educators are growing and learning alongside them?
