Message from Tanya Sweeney, Head, Preparatory School

Dear UCC Prep Families,

I attended the two Remembrance Day Assemblies hosted at the Prep last Thursday. One  was for our SK to Year 3 students, the other for Years 4 to 7.

Words cannot accurately capture my pride in our Prep student community as a result of those experiences.

Our Primary students gathered in the Wilder Library to mark Remembrance Day. David Girard spoke about the freedoms we have in Canada. Pam Love read the students a compelling yet age-appropriate book. Then students listened and stood for a moment of silence as Upper School student Benjamin Lee played “The Last Post”. I was most impressed with how our youngest students conducted themselves, and how our Year 3 students set a fine example for their younger peers.

Our Years 4 to 7 students gathered in Weston Hall for their Remembrance Day assembly. Thanks to the creativity and hard work of students in 4B and 7F, led by colleagues Michael Bushey and David Fraser, our students witnessed a compelling presentation. Music is an important part of such occasions; Kathryn Edmondson ensured a strong performance by our Year 7 choir.

Special guests for the occasion included veteran and Old Boy Edward Saunders ’43 and a naval flag party from HMCS York. They remarked to me on the exemplary behaviour of all of our boys.

I felt an immense sense of pride in our Prep community last week. While the video of our Years 4 to 7 Assembly doesn’t fully capture the atmosphere of the day, we share it with you here.
