Heads Up

Welcome to Heads Up, your one-stop source for news about your son’s upcoming activities and events.

Message from SK

Happy spring to everyone and a warm welcome back to all the boys and their families from the March break. We can tell that the boys enjoyed themselves and had lots of fun, from their shared news.

After finishing our “What’s the Matter?” unit before the break and successfully learning the different states of matter, we are now headed into our new unit, “Patterns.” Through this unit, the boys will explore, organize and express their understanding of the world through patterns. They will have opportunities to discover patterns in language, their daily life, in nature and in math.

In math, we’ll focus on number patterns, addition and subtraction number stories and investigate the fact that a quantity is greater when counting forwards and less when counting backwards.

In language, we’ll focus on patterns in word families, poems, rhymes and stories. In printing, we’ll continue with our “Handwriting Without Tears” program and finish learning and printing small, descending and tall letters. We’ll focus on writing complete sentences, adding punctuation and asking, “Does this sentence make sense?”

Coming soon… the return of your son’s favorite big red dog, Clifford! Beginning Monday, April 11, Clifford will once again visit with your son overnight. It’ll follow the same outline as before but the focus will relate to our new unit of inquiry, “Patterns.”

Christine and I are excited to continue with your son’s learning journey for the remainder of the third term. We look forward to sharing in their achievements and milestones as they grow and change to prepare for their new adventures in Grade 1.

Upcoming dates to remember:
Focus Day: Tuesday, April 12 (boys dismissed at 1:45 p.m.)
Student-led Conferences: Thursday, April 14 (more information to follow as the date grows near)

Warm regards,
The SK team
