Message from Scott Cowie, Head, Senior Division
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your readership over the past year. Many of you have taken time to share your feedback and have provided me with ideas for various themes for these weekly missives.
The concept of writing these messages through Heads Up originated from numerous conversations I’ve had with parents over the years. They’ve talked about their struggle to get their boys to engage in conversations about what was happening here at school and about other issues or challenges they may be working through in their adolescence.
At one point in time, a few parents suggested that they’d benefit from hearing about topics that are relevant both to school life and to growing up through the teenage years. That was five years ago, and over that time, parents have continued to convey that they find the messages helpful in prompting conversation with their sons.
I’m no expert on the teenage experience, but throughout the 16 years I’ve been here at UCC, and through being a father of a teenager myself, I’ve spent a lot of time with young folks and I’m happy to share what information and insights I can as we travel together through this remarkable, sometimes challenging, ever-complex yet rewarding, journey of parenthood.
Wishing you, your son and your family a wonderful summer break.
Thanks again for reading,
