Welcome to Heads Up, your one-stop source for news about your son’s upcoming activities and events.

Message from Naheed Bardai, Head, Middle Division

Naheed BardaiLike many of your sons, I’ve been waiting for this and next week to arrive. It feels like I’ve been a part of UCC for a long period of time – albeit from afar. After arriving in Toronto at the beginning of July, I’ve had the opportunity to settle back home and into UCC – an exciting combination of the familiar and foreign after being away from the city for over 10 years. As I mentioned to the faculty earlier this week, although the campus was full of children here for camps, the school seemed empty for me. As a person who loves being in schools, I can’t wait for Labour Day to pass so our halls can be filled with the sound of boys who are here with purpose; the sounds of boys who are engaged in constructive dialogue, jovial laughter and silent study.

As you prepare your son for the academic year, please encourage him to be open to the new experiences and challenges he’ll face. Encourage him to find comfort in the uncertainty of a new school or new form. Reassure him that he’s in a warm and caring place where boys can be themselves. Our school is intentionally and proudly a diverse place – please encourage him to see strength in that diversity.

Please be sure to contact your son’s form advisor with any information that might have an impact on his start to the year, such as significant changes that may have occurred in his life, or experiences he may have had during the summer months. You can expect to receive a letter from your son’s form teacher early next week, asking for your input.

Please note that David Bullock is on temporary leave. We’re pleased to have Tory Boeckh available to fulfil his responsibilities until his return. As many of you know, Tory was a Prep TA for two years and a regular supply teacher last year. She’s a certified physical education teacher and experienced coach with extensive experience in hockey. We know you’ll warmly welcome Tory in her new role.

The faculty and staff of UCC look forward to meeting you and your boy(s) next week. Enjoy the long weekend!
