Message from Form 5
We’d like to extend our appreciation for your attendance at the PYP Exhibition last week. Form 5 students worked very hard throughout the past seven weeks and it was exciting to watch them share their learning with you. We were happy to see parents visiting so many different booths throughout the day; thank you for your support. We’re very proud of your sons for their efforts and achievements.
The excitement continues in Form 5 this week with Prep Games Day and an author visit from Shane Peacock. Some students have been reading the Eye of the Crow, from his young Sherlock Holmes series, as part of our Literature Circles. Peacock will be sharing his experiences as an author, and this will lead to our last major writing component, a creative writing story. Students will focus on the steps of the writing process, with particular emphasis on their editing skills, sentence formation and paragraph structure. In mathematics, students will finish off the year with units on more complex fraction work, such as multiplying mixed numbers and finding fractions of fractions. And also, students will explore solving problems of perimetre, area and volume.
If you can believe it, we’ve already launched our next unit of inquiry! We’ll be exploring how our food choices impact the health of the planet by investigating farming, food distribution, consumer choices and sustainability. We’ll be transferring our knowledge into practice when we head up to Norval on Monday, May 29. As students dive deeper into the unit, please engage them by asking questions about food labelling, carbon footprints and sustainable food practices.
We can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by and want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for all your support this year. If we don’t get a chance to see you, we wish you all a safe and happy summer!
