Message from Form 4
It’s been fun investigating different ways of communicating and the reasons for them. Both classes have tried to better understand the nuances and importance of body language and facial expression as effective ways to convey ideas and emotions.
As part of our “Inquiry” unit, we continue to explore different poetry types. The boys all created a quatrain and are beginning to work on concrete poems and cinquains. The boys will also be asked to memorize a poem to present to the class. This part of our unit nicely coincides with National Poetry Month.
In math, we continue our exploration of area and perimetre. The boys are learning formulas to apply to various area problems.
This week, a letter went home regarding our Project Giveback. Although the boys will be working on their charity project in class, we’d really appreciate and encourage you to talk to your son about his charity choice at home. During the week of April 27, we’ll be working in class on the charity projects. Your son may be required to bring some materials to school (depending on what he would like to do for his presentation). We’d also like to extend an invitation to you to attend our Charity Fair on Monday, May 4 from 2 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Prep library.
A letter went home last week regarding our upcoming bike trip. It includes information about our trip to Norval (Tuesday, May 12 to Thursday, May 14) and how you can help your son prepare for the cycling unit in physical education. Police officer Marcie will visit to talk about bicycle safety in preparation for our trip. The boys will start to cycle in physical education class on April 27 and will continue for two weeks until our Norval trip. They’ll practise hand signals, stopping, starting, switching gears and straight-line riding. Please check your son’s bike to ensure it’s in working order.
