Friday, June 5: Y1 to IB1 exams begin

As we enter the final week of classes, review and exam preparations continue. Thursday, June 4 will be an exam tutorial day when no formal classes are held but teachers in each subject discipline will be available throughout the day for student drop-ins. Schedules will be communicated to all boys by email or Haiku. To make full use of this important day, students are encouraged to attend with pertinent questions that are formulated after some degree of preparation, rather than attending with rudimentary questions. Although the standard is to wish students “good luck” on their exams, luck has very little to do with one’s performance. Nothing addresses stress and anxiety caused by exams better than thorough preparation, a good night’s sleep and a disciplined approach to writing them. Nevertheless, good luck, boys.

Each spring, in the final 20 minutes of period 4 (Wednesday, June 3), the Y2 boys are invited down to the student centre to hear words of welcome from Mrs. Gauthier and Mr. Cowie as they transition to the Senior Division. After a very brief address, the boys receive an ice-cream sandwich or a freezie for those who are lactose intolerant. Then they go merrily along their way to continue preparing for their upcoming exams. It’s a lovely and very low-key event between boys and teachers/advisers. Ask your Y2 boy about it.

Please remember that the final day of classes is Monday, June 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is exam review morning when students look at their corrected exams and consolidate their learning even further. Boys will attend abbreviated classes for every subject and iDiv boys are asked to make written reflections about each exam. This forms part of his learning portfolio which informs his future exam writing experiences. At 12:30 p.m. all boys will be dismissed and summer vacation officially begins.
